Abstract: The 1s ՜ 2s, 2p, 3s, 3p and 3d excitation cross sections for hydrogen-like (Li2+) by proton impact have been calculated in a wide energy range from 9 keV to 3 MeV, using Schwinger’s variational principle within the impact parameter formalism. These cross sections are relevant to controlled nuclear fusion studies. They are also important in fusion plasma research [1]. The behavior of the computed cross sections are in excellent agreement with available theoretical results, obtained by the close-coupling method which is that of TCAO (Two-centre Atomic Orbital expansion) of Ermolaev and co-workers [1] and SCE (Single Centre Expansion) of Hall and co-workers [2].
