Abstract: Electronic commerce (E-Commerce) currently plays an important part in the development and growth in the world economy at large. This paper reviews the evolution of E-Commerce and Internet in Egypt besides the opportunities that E-Commerce brings to a developing country like Egypt are discussed. In the fact Egypt has recently led the region with the exception Israel in building the Infrastructure and information for Internet and E-Commerce. Without personal training in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) area, we can not achieve any progress. At the beginning we carried out awareness education for the public and private sectors on a wide scale. To achieve progress in E-Commerce we have started the following steps since 1990: 1- Preparing and training people to be highly qualified users for ICT. 2- Building robust communication infrastructure all over Egypt especially in major cities in all governorates. 3- Building a well prepared financial infrastructure in banks and E-Commerce companies. 4- Issuing the required rules and legislations by the government to control and administer the work in E-Commerce locally so that Egypt might take large participation in the international E-Commerce. 5- Market size studies in the trade are being carried out by researchers and offering these studies to all companies to share in the local and the international market. 6- The government keep to small companies to share in the local and international E-Commerce market The above steps that suggested in this paper are not meant to be exhaustive .Our work extends the above steps to enhance E-Commerce successful application in the Middle East and the Arab world The work in this paper expresses the view of the researcher rather than the government.
