This thesis investigates Physics-Informed Neural Networks (PINNs) as a unified framework for the coupled optical–thermal modelling of laser–tissue interaction: the propagation of light in biological tissue and the laser-induced temperature field underlying hyperthermic therapy. Five progressive studies share a single code base. The forward photon-diffusion problem is solved in homogeneous tissue (relative L² error 5.5 × 10⁻⁵) and in a three-layer skin–fat–muscle geometry, where the analytical interface-correction term D′(z) ∂ϕ/∂z proves decisive, reducing the error from ~17% to 1.8 × 10⁻⁴. The inverse problem recovers the optical coefficients from noisy fluence data with sub-percent error in the single-layer case, but exposes an identifiability gap in the multi-layer case, where the smallest coefficient of each layer is the worst recovered (43% error for μₐˢᵏⁱⁿ). Finally, the diffusion solution drives a time-dependent Pennes bioheat model (L² = 1.04 × 10⁻¹). Beyond accuracy, the simulations expose two physical phenomena: a Q-balance effect, by which the absorbed power coincides in skin and tumour and the thermal selectivity stays near unity; and a self-shielding limit of plasmonic enhancement, where an excessive tumour absorption collapses the optical penetration depth below the tumour thickness and shifts heating toward the skin — a parametric sweep locating a modest optimum near μₐᵗᵘᵐᵒᵘʳ ≈ 2 cm⁻¹. The work shows that, even on a laptop-class budget, PINNs provide a viable framework for forward, inverse, and coupled optical–thermal modelling, and a tool to probe the physical limits of laser hyperthermia.en_US
