The study, in its theoretical part, focuses on classifying these materials into three main categories: organic semiconductors, which are based on carbon and conjugated systems and provide high mechanical flexibility; inorganic semiconductors such as silicon and germanium, which are characterized by an ordered crystalline structure and exceptional thermal and chemical stability, making them the backbone of conventional electronics; and compound semiconductors resulting from the combination of elements from different groups of the periodic table (such as group III–V elements), which enable “band-gap engineering” to enhance the efficiency and response speed of optoelectronic devices. The research also reviews the fundamental processes applied to these materials, such as doping (n-type and p-type), which allows precise control of their electrical conductivity. On the applied side, the thesis highlights how these physical concepts are transformed into concrete technological solutions, particularly in the petrochemical industry through the development of smart gas sensors and electronic nose systems for protecting industrial facilities from leaks. It also emphasizes their crucial role in renewable energy by improving the performance of photovoltaic cells and energy conversion systems. The study concludes by presenting statistics on the structural evolution of semiconductors between 2016 and 2026, confirming that they are the fundamental driving force behind modern digital civilization and its technological development.en_US
