Background: Emotional dysregulation and distress intolerance are among the most prominent concepts in clinical psychology, as they are associated with a range of psychological disorders such as anxiety, depression, and adaptation difficulties, particularly during the university youth stage, which is characterized by multiple psychological and social transitions. Objective: This study highlights the level of emotional dysregulation and distress intolerance among university students, in addition to uncovering the nature of the correlational relationship between the two variables according to the level of emotional dysregulation. Methodology: The study included 109 male and female students from Kasdi Merbah University, Ouargla, randomly selected with ages ranging between 18 and 55 years. Two data collection tools were utilized: the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale (DERS-16) and the Distress Tolerance Scale (DTS). Results: The findings revealed that nearly half of the university students suffer from a high level of emotional dysregulation, and they also experience a high level of distress intolerance. Correlation analysis indicated a statistically significant positive correlational relationship between the two variables (r = .53, p < .001). This relationship was found to be stronger and more pronounced among individuals with high emotional dysregulation compared to those with lower levels. Conclusion: University students suffer from high levels of emotional dysregulation and distress intolerance, and the relationship between the two variables strengthens as the level of emotional dysregulation increases. This highlights the necessity of adopting preventive psychological intervention programs within the university environment aimed at developing emotion regulation skills and enhancing the capacity to tolerate distress among this demographicen_US
