Application of Foreign Languages in Internal and External Business Communication at Algerian Airlines at the Regional Directorate of Ouargla

Abstract

This research investigates the strategic role of foreign languages in institutional communication at Air Algérie, focusing on the Regional Directorate of Ouargla. The study explores how linguistic competence, specifically in English and French, influences operational safety and service quality. Using a descriptive-analytical approach and a questionnaire distributed to staff, the findings reveal a "linguistic paradox": while French dominates internal administration, there is a critical need for English in technical operations. The study concludes that investing in English for Specific Purposes (ESP) is essential for bridging the gap between local practices and international aviation standards.

Cette recherche examine le rôle stratégique des langues étrangères dans la communication institutionnelle au sein d'Air Algérie, en se concentrant sur la Direction Régionale d'Ouargla. L'étude explore comment la compétence linguistique, particulièrement en anglais et en français, influence la sécurité opérationnelle et la qualité du service. En adoptant une approche descriptiveanalytique et un questionnaire distribué au personnel, les résultats révèlent un«paradoxe linguistique»: alors que le français domine l'administration interne l'anglais est indispensable pour les opérations techniques. L'étude conclut que l'investissement dans la formation linguistique spécialisée (anglais sur objectifs spécifiques - ESP) est essentiel pour combler le fossé entre les pratiques locales et les normes internationales de l'aviation.

تتناول هذه الدراسة الدور الاستراتيجي للغات الأجنبية في التواصل المؤسساتي داخل شركة الخطوط الجوية الجزائرية، وبالتحديد في المديرية الجهوية بورقلة. تسلط الضوء على كيفية تأثير الكفاءة اللغوية خاصة في اللغتين الإنجليزية والفرنسية على أمن الطيران وجودة الخدمات المقدمة. ومن خلال إتباع المنهج الوصفي التحليلي وتوزيع استبيان على الموظفين، أظهرت النتائج وجود "مفارقة لغوية" حيث تسيطر اللغة الفرنسية على المعاملات الإدارية الداخلية، في حين تبرز حاجة ملحة للغة الإنجليزية في الجوانب التقنية و العملياتية تخلص الدراسة إلى أن الاستثمار في التكوين اللغوي المتخصص (ESP) هو السبيل الأمثل لسد الفجوة بين الممارسات المحلية والمعايير الدولية المعمول بها في قطاع الطيران.
