This study evaluated the efficacy of a biostimulation and bioaugmentation strategy based on the synergistic action of biochar, biosurfactants, and indigenous microorganisms for the remediation of soils contaminated with petroleum hydrocarbons in the Hassi Messaoud, Haoud Berkaoui, and Rhourd Nouss (Illizi) regions. Hydrocarbonoclastic bacterial and fungal strains were immobilized on biochars synthesized from date palm leaves and coffee grounds. Experimental results demonstrated the superiority of date palm leaf biochar in terms of microbial retention capacity, confirming its suitability as an optimal biological support . Furthermore, the applied treatment enabled a significant reduction in heavy metal content. The evaluation of total petroleum hydrocarbon (TPH) degradation rates showed that the process utilizing immobilized biochar combined with biosurfactants achieved the highest purification yield, reaching 22.9%, compared to 17.6% for biological treatment using only microorganisms. Concurrently, a decrease in heavy metal bioavailability was observed posttreatment, with reduction rates reaching 37.25% for mercury (Hg), 8.70% for chromium (Cr), and 7.84% for lead (Pb). These findings indicate that the combination of biochar, biosurfactants, and indigenous microorganisms constitutes an effective, ecological, and sustainable biotechnological approach for the bioremediation of petroleum-contaminated soils .
