This study falls within the search for ecologically acceptable alternative solutions for the management of problematic perennial weeds in Saharan agrosystems, particularly in the palm groves of southeastern Algeria. It evaluates the allelopathic potential of Cynanchum acutum L., a spontaneous species with a high adaptive capacity, against two highly competitive and difficult-tocontrol target species: Cynodon dactylon and Phragmites australis. The study was conducted through two complementary experimental approaches. The first trial investigated the effect of an aqueous solution prepared from C. acutum leaf powder on the regeneration capacity, root emission, and vegetative shoot emission of vegetative fragments of the target species. The second trial, carried out under pot conditions, assessed the effect of C. acutum plant powder, applied at different doses, on vegetative multiplication, root growth, and aerial growth of the two species. The results revealed a clear and dose-dependent inhibitory effect of C. acutum on the vegetative regeneration of the studied species. The most concentrated treatments strongly reduced, or even completely suppressed, root and vegetative emissions, indicating a marked disturbance of the processes involved in propagule recovery and establishment. Statistical analyses showed highly significant differences among treatments, with a progressive decrease in growth parameters as the applied dose increased. This response was observed in both C. dactylon and P. australis, although the intensity of inhibition varied according to the species, the type of plant material used, and the measured variable. The corrected parameters expressed relative to the initial number of nodes confirmed that the observed effect was not merely related to the initial morphological variability of the fragments, but reflected a genuine biological action of compounds derived from C. acutum. Overall, the findings suggest that C. acutum has a relevant allelopathic potential that could be valorized within a plant biotechnology perspective applied to the agroecological management of perennial weeds. This approach may provide a basis for the development of plant-derived bioherbicides or integrated weed management strategies in Saharan date palm-based systems. However, further validation remains necessary, particularly through the identification of the involved bioactive compounds, the assessment of their stability, the evaluation of their selectivity toward crops of interest, and the confirmation of their effectiveness under natural palm grove conditions.
