This study aimed to investigate the nature of the relationship between empathy and burnout among nurses, in addition to measuring the levels of empathy and burnout among nurses working at Mohamed Boudiaf Hospital in Ouargla. The study also sought to identify differences in empathy and burnout levels according to gender and age variables. The study sample consisted of 71 male and female nurses. The study adopted the descriptive correlational method. The Mark Davis Empathy Scale and the Christina Maslach Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) were used as data collection tools. The findings revealed a very weak correlation between empathy and burnout among nurses, with a correlation coefficient of (r = 0.120). The results also indicated that the level of empathy among nurses was moderate, whereas the level of burnout was high. In addition, no statistically significant differences were found in empathy levels according to gender, while statistically significant differences were found in burnout levels in favor of females. Furthermore, the study revealed statistically significant differences in both empathy and burnout according to age, in favor of nurses over 30 years old, who reported higher levels compared to younger nurses
