Social Classes Differences in Charles Dickens' Novel David Copperfield

Abstract

Abstract: The objective of this study is to investigate and to analyse the social classes which Charles Dickens intervene in his novel David Copperfield. The present study expresses the author's society which is Victorian Age. It is clear that Dickens was much more successful than his predecessors in exposing the troubles of the industrial society including class division, and poverty. This investigation aims at laying attention on the characteristics of each class, through a literary study of corpus. In this regard, the dissertation is divided into three chapters. The first chapter involves background knowledge about Victorian age. Also, it discusses the life and works of the authors with the essential theory that can be applied in social classes. Its aim is to show the Victorian society and how a social novel draw this phenomenon, and the interesting of writer to express it in his works. The second chapter studies the main features of literature which is social criticism that concerned with the social structures, and the effects of Industrial Revolution which make change in British society. The aim of this chapter to criticize the society of Victorians and show the social classes and its conflict. Third chapter centers on the analysis of the novel focusing on the content through a discussion of the social class in 19th century England. تھدف ھذه الدراسة إلى فحص وتحلیل الطبقات الاجتماعیة التي لجأ إلیھا الكاتب تشارلز دیكنز في روایتھا دیفید كوبرفیلد. حیث أنھا تعبر عن مجتمع الكاتب ألا وھو المجتمع الفیكتوري. فمن الواضح أن دیكنز كان أكثر الكتاب نجاحا من سابقیھ في عرض معاناة المجتمع من الجانب الصناعي بما في ذلك الانقسام الطبقي، والفقر. إن ھدف الدراسة ھو لفت الانتباه إلى خصائص كل طبقة، من خلال دراسة أدبیة للمدونة المختارة. في ھذا الصدد، ینقسم ھذا البحث إلى ثلاثة فصول. الفصل الأول یتضمن لمحة عن العصر الفیكتوري كما ینطوي على حیاة الكاتب و أعمالھ بالاستناد إلى النظریة التي تعالج موضوع الطبقات الاجتماعیة حیث تھدف إلى معرفة المجتمع الفیكتوري ، بالإضافة إلى اھتمام الكاتب بھذه الظاھرة معبرا عنھا في أعمالھ. و من خلال الفصل الثاني نبرز أھم ملامح النقد الاجتماعي المتعلق بالھیاكل الاجتماعیة، وآثار الثورة الصناعیة على المجتمع البریطاني .والھدف من ھذا الفصل ھو دور المجتمع الفیكتوري في ظھور الطبقات الاجتماعیة وصراعھا .الفصل الثالث یتمركز على تحلیل مضمون الروایة من خلال مناقشة الطبقات الاجتماعیة في القرن 19 في انكلترا.
