This study, aims to study the biodiversity of cultivated vegetable species in the region of Touggourt. It consists of an inventory of existing species and cultivars in different farming systems. Our working method is based on surveys conducted at the farms in the region according to a questionnaire to meet our objectives. Thus, interviews were done with experienced people and seed sellers. The results of our investigations have inventoried 21 species, including 7 with a wide distribution and occupying an area of over 2000 m², are abundant species. It is spinach, beans, chili, onion, lettuce, garlic and purslane. Other species are poorly represented and their areas do not exceed 600 m², these are rare, they are: eggplant, radish, local gourd, courgette, okra, turnip, watermelon, potato and artichoke. Some of these species were formerly cultivated in the region, like: the local gourd and okra, which are currently considered endangered species. Regarding genetic diversity, it is ignored and no varietal name has been registered. Note that some cultivars inventoried are appointed locally by farmers in the region based on morphological characteristics of the plant, without any scientific characterization.en_US
