Abstract: Medicago arborea (Fabaceae) is a fodder species in Algerian steppe. Experiments were conducted to determine the effect of salinity on seed germination. Seeds were germinated in presence of four salt concentrations (0, 50, 100 and 150mM NaCl) and 16h/8h of photoperiod. The results showed that germination percentage decreased with an increase in NaCl concentrations. The high percentage of germination wasobtained for the seeds exposed to 0 and 50mM NaCl. M. arboreais moderately salt tolerant at germination stage.
