Abstract: This study aims to reveal the nature of the relationship between metacognition in mathematics and general intelligenceamongst third-graders pupils in middle school and examine whether this relationship was affected by: the level of academic achievement and sex. The study sample consisted of 130 pupils (66 males, 64 females) were selected at random from Abdelkader Korichi middle school in Rouissat Ouargla. To achieve the aims of the study used: Metacognition Scale, Raven test of intelligence, and we used to measure the level of academic achievement rates of the first chapter in mathematics. The study was conducted in the academic year 2011/2012 . After a statistical analysis of the data using Excel 2007 and SPSS 19.0 programs study showed the following results: • There is a statistically significant relationship at 0.01 between metacognition in mathematics and general intelligence amongst third-graders pupils in middle school. • Do not vary the nature of the relationship between metacognition in mathematics and general intelligence according to sex amongst third-grade pupils middle school. • Nature of the relationship between metacognitive in mathematics and general intelligence for the third-grade pupils middle school differ statistically significant at 0.05 depending on the level of academic achievement (high / low). • Do not vary the nature of the relationship between metacognition in mathematics and general intelligence third grade pupils in the middle school, a statistically significant difference depending on the level of academic achievement (high / normal, normal / low).
