The availability of an important solar energy and the geographic situation of our country, offer the appropriate solution to supply water for irrigation and drinking in remote region. The object of this work is to study a photovoltaic system, of water pumping for irrigation in arid region (Ouargla-Algeria). The analysis considers the interaction of four subsystems: local climate, irrigated crops, soil and photovoltaic pumping equipment. We process with the following way: 1- Estimating the value of daily mean solar irradiation on the panel surface, by knowledge the monthly mean value of the sunshine duration at the site for a period of 7 years. 2- Determination of the daily water needs for the crop (date palm), by using modern irrigation technique. 3- Selecting the configuration of the photovoltaic pumping system. 4- Size the photovoltaic generator.en_US
