Abstract: The role of the fodder crops is bound largely to the role of livestock that valorizes them. Otherwise, these crops also have other agronomic and economic interests. The fodder resources of the oasis contribute besides, of non negligible manner, to the cover of the nutritional needs of the extensive herds that normally exploits the desert zones outside of the oasis. In Algeria, fodders only represent 5.028% of the Agricultural Useful Area. And in the Sahara, the wilaya of Biskra distinguishes itself by the most important fodder area and that has a progressive tendency as well as El Oued whereas Adrar and Ouargla have a regressive tendency. In a part of the Southeast (Mzab, Ouargla, Wadi Righ and Souf), 59% of the exploitations cultivate at least a fodder species, and it is the alfalfa that is the main cultivated species (44.25% of the set of the exploitations and 75.00% of the exploitations where fodder are present). And in Ouargla, fodder is the first practiced underlying culture. As to the adventitious, they are not eliminated if it is about a fodder crop as the oat or the barley, but are reaped and given with the other species to livestock.
