Nowadays, the biosphere is suffering with various aggressions of the human activities, which increase its fragility and discupt it's functioning and disrupt its functioning. So, it should be protected to prevent any irreversible effect. Our study was carried out in 2003 to evaluate the atmospheric pollution by hydrocarbons in Hassi Messaoud region as a petroleum area surrounded by many torches. To determine the spatiotemporal accumulation rate of hydrocarbons in different places of the studied area, some lichen transplants of Xanthoria parientina were used as bioaccumulators. It was resulted in a regular accumulation of hydrocarbons in the lichen transplants during the whole length of exposure.Besides, it was found a significant correlation between the accumulation of hydrocarbons, length of exposure and space factor. This concordance between the hydrocarbons accumulation and the two precedent factors lets to suppose that Xanthoria parientina can be suitable species to evaluate atmospheric pollution in such cases.en_US
