Abstract: The study of date palm genetic resources generally requires an evaluation of the composition of a given palmary cultivars. It is based on the inventory and the estimated frequency of abundance of all cultivars. Moreover, this study may also be interested in the mode of management of this agricultural diversity. In the region of Mzab, similar studies have reported that the existence of diversity was interesting but the rate of erosion of this wealth remains unknown. The use of indices or indicators is a means of assessing the degree of erosion of genetic diversity of certain plant species. Ethnobotanical indicators of diversity in the species cultivated applied to date palm in the conditions of the region Mzab indicate a risk of erosion. In this case, the two indicators relating to the role of species in the local food culture and the multiple uses of the same species are not verifiable. An ethnobotanical analysis of various indicators highlights the strengths and weaknesses of the current management of date palm genetic resources.
