Abstract: A study of dairy cattle farms in the urban community of Niamey (UCN) was conducted to understand the patterns of herds management in relation to animal productions. So the growth the profit of live weight of 22 calves using the barymetry, the performance weight of 20 dairy cows assessed by body score, and the milk production measured on 20 cows by milk recording were studied. The results of survey showed that livestock was the exclusive activity for 25% of herders in peri-urban and principal activity associated with another activity for 75% of herders. For urban herders livestock was a second activity for 90% of them and the one single activity for 10%. The best growth of calves was recorded in urban herds (44.80 ± 0.3 kg of body weight) than peri-urban herds (37.7 ± 0.9 kg of body weight) for calves of 90 days old. The body condition of cows was better (note 3) for 80% of urban herds against 60% in peri-urban herds. The total milk yield averages were 277 ± 104 kg of milk in urban herds and 224 ± 59.70 kg in peri-urban herds during 107 ± 3.00 days of recording milk.
