Abstract: In this research we tried to define both literary criticism and linguistic criticism and clarify their scopes of interest. We depicted Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness in which the theme of nature is analysed from the two points of view, i.e, the literary interpretation and the linguistic function of simile through which nature is expressed. After comparing between the results obtained from the two analyses we come up with the relationship which holds between linguistic and literary criticism.
