Abstract: The social and environmental responsibility has became a concerns of international economic organizations and institutions as a performance indicators which is no longer confined to the financial side but exceeded to the contribution of the institutions in the society welfare, achieving sustainable development and environment preservation, so all their decisions be socially responsible. Considering the importance of the banking sector in economic development, the current study is trying to diagnose the reality of the local and foreign banks operating in Algeria and to what extent they adopt social and environmental responsibility through their performed activities towards the community, the environment, shareholders, employees and customers. The study was done through a survey of group of banks operating in Ouargla Province to draw the conclusions that contribute to the improvement of environmental and societal performance in keeping with the evolutions of the leading major banks in the field.
