This study presents the first results of a research in biological anthropology devoted to the study of inbreeding in the population of Msirda in extreme western Algeria. The interest in this work is justified by the role of mate selection on the genetic structure of the family and the evolution of the gene pool of the population under the influence of predictors of consanguinity. Our information comes from a survey (2007-2010) on a sample of 285 families and provides a large number of bio-socio-anthropological data collected from a pre-questionnaire. The level of inbreeding in the region reaches 30.85% of all couples studied. Bio-anthropological characterization of inbreeding in the population of Msirda of morbidity and some fitness parameters revealed a significant effect of inbreeding on morbidity (including diabetes and hyper blood pressure). It also seems that inbreeding are associated with abortion and neonatal mortality. Finally, inbreeding in the population of Msirda appears as a purely biological phenomenon and anchored in the region more than a phenomenon dependent on social organization.en_US
