dc.description.abstract | The objective of this study is to show the potential of Cyprus Papyrus in the purification of wastewater by using the system of horizontal flow in dry hot weather. This study is a comparison between two experimental plots, one is planted with cyperus papyrus and the second is used as a control. The study is aimed at asserting the potential of Cyperus Paperus in purifying wastewater. This research has been conducted in the urban area of Cleaning up National Office located in Touggourt (Ouargla, Algeria). This experimental model is constituted from two circular plots with the capacity of 130 L filled to depth of 15 cm with gravel of 25/15 mm and 10 cm soil. The first plot has been planted with young shoots of cyperus paperus (36 stems/ m2), the second is used as a control. The first experimental plot was supplied exclusively withwastewater after physical treatment, once per week (approximatively 30 L each time). The wastewater remains in the plot five days and after that it flows in a bowl fixed down the planted plot. After one year of experimental study we got the following result: DCO (80, 49 % ), DBO5 ( 83 ,7% ), MES ( 93,79 %), NO2-( 81, 75%), PO4-3 ( 80, 6 % ), E. Coli ( 99,83% ) .The existence of cyperus paperus in the plot helps in making canals through which water can pass. The considerable increase in the polluting substances and detrimental germs helps in encouraging the reuse of the treated water in agriculture and industry. | en_US |
