Linguistic Interference in the Algerian Press Translated into English Case Study: "Echourouk Newspaper"

Abstract

Abstract The present paper is intended to shed light on the faults of Arabic-English translation caused by linguistic interference, especially when the translators resort to their mother tongue in the translation from Arabic into English. The data was taken from "Echourouk website", this data was translated articles published only at the website. This paper shows that the translations have traces of interference that are due to the over use of word for word translation, the ignorance by the translators at one hand and the linguistic farness between Arabic and English which may affects the ultimate goal of translation. Generally speaking, this research aims at helping translators to purify the quality of translation. The study, especially at the lexical level, shows that linguistic interference is minimized when the dynamic equivalence is opted, whereas it is maximized when formal equivalence is employed. On the other hand, this study argues that linguistic interference may be a good means for intercultural interaction in view of Newmark (1991). ملخص یھدف ھذا البحث إلى تسلیط الضوء على اخطاء الترجمة من العربیة إلى الانجلیزیة والناجمة عن التداخل اللغوي خاصة حین یلجأ المترجم إلى اللغة الأم في ترجمتھ. أخذت البیانات المدروسة من موقع الشروق الالكتروني بحیث كانت البیانات عبارة عن مقالات مترجمة على ھذا الموقع فقط. ویوضح ھذا البحث بان الترجمات تأثرت بالتداخل اللغوي بسبب الاستعمال المفرط للترجمة الحرفیة وإھمال المترجمین من جھة والبعد اللغوي بین العربیة والانجلیزیة من جھة أخرى والذي قد یؤثر على الھدف النھائي للترجمة. عموما ھذا البحث یھدف إلى مساعدة المترجمین على تنقیة وضمان جودة الترجمة. من جھة أخرى أظھر ھذا البحث أن التداخل على المستوى المعجمي یقل حین یختار المترجم المكافئ الدینامیكي بینما یزداد التداخل حین یختار المترجم المكافئ الشكلي. أخیرا، یدرس ھذا البحث أیضا أن ( التداخل قد یصنف كوسیلة جیدة للتفاعل مابین الثقافات من جھة نظر (نیومارك ١٩٩١
