Translation of Fashion Clothing Industry from English into Arabic: ORYX`s Magazine as a Case of Study

Abstract

The purpose of our research is to identify how translation, in fashion clothing industry, is practiced and which procedures are applied in this process from English into Arabic, as well as the constraints those influence the process of translation. We also embark upon a critical analysis of translation approaches and strategies ;if they are used and if not which the alternatives adopted by the translators to provide some possible solutions for translation in fashion clothing industry . In our research we examine articles in English and their translations in the Arabic from Oryx magazine, which is Qatar airways’ In-flight magazine, we adopt analytical study in only clothing articles, in order to reach the results to put general conclusion; in connection with translation in clothing industry. Translation in such fields requires much more translator’s effort and concentration, and it is relativity to achieve faithfulness in this kind of translation, whereas the translator would be referred to many effective elements in the process of translation , may be more than TT and ST themselves .Finally , we hope that this study would open the door for other researches ;more specified , as fashion industry is expansive; rather than clothes , it may specified on for example perfumes , shoes or accessories.

الملخص بحثنا يهدف إلى فهم عملية الترجمة في مجال صناعة الملابس وكيفية سيرها و ما هي الطرق المطبقة في هذه العملية , دون أن ننسى إبراز العوائق التي قد تعرقل أو تؤثر في الترجمة كما نقوم بنقد تحليلي حول المقاربات و نظريات المتبعة و في حالة عدم وجودها ما هي البدائل المتخذة من طرف المترجمين كحلول ممكنة في الترجمة في مجال صناعة الملابس
