The city of Ghardaïa experienced in the past several devastating floods especially the October 2008 event which caused considerable loss of life and property. The causes of these disasters are diverse but the most relevant cause is the anarchic urbanization at the M'Zab oued flood plains. After the 2008 disaster, several mitigation measures were undertaken including the construction of three erecting dams upstream of the city to reduce flow discharges during floods and avoid other disasters. The purpose of this study is to analyze flood risk after these measurements through hydrological modeling via HEC-HMS and hydraulic modeling via HEC-RAS.
