Abstract: The objective of this work is to study the effect of salt stress on germination and post-germination of four varieties of quinoa (Chenopodium quinoaWilld.) (Santa maria, GIZA1, GIZA2 and Q102) introduced in the Ouargla region. The study was carried out in the laboratory of the research station of Sidi Mehdi -Touggourt at a temperature of 25 °C. Seeds were germinated in petri dishes and were soaked with increasing concentrations of sodium chloride solution 0, 200, 400 and 600 Mm for 7 days. Several characteristics related to germination (daily and final germination rate, germination speed, velocity coefficient etc.) were recorded. The length of the radicle was measured on the last day of germination. The results obtained show that the response of seeds to salt stress varies according to the intensity of the stress and the variety in question. Salt considerably reduces the germination rate and the length of the radicle, nevertheless, it appears that the genotypes GIZA 1 and 2 are more tolerant to severe salt stress than the variety Q102. Santa maria is on the other hand the most sensitive variety. Tolerant varieties are of great interest for breeding programs for salt tolerance. They could be proposed to valorize saline area
