Translating culture specific-items in literary texts Case study: ذاكرة الجسد by Ahlem Mosteghanemi

Abstract

In thisresearch, we shed light on the study of cultural translation through culture specific items in theprevious and latestworks of literature (novels, stories...) in general, and the Algerian literature in particular. Itcan’tbeconductedwithouttakingintoaccount the cultural differencesthatexistbetweenlanguages, to showan understandablemethod of communication between the source text and the targettext. Scholars differentiatebetweenseveral types of CSIs, for instance, the classification of Peter Newmarkisconsidered to clarifyand justifyourresearch (ecology, social culture, gestures and habits, organizations, customs, activities, conceptsand material culture). Thenitwillprovide an overview about the twostrategies of Venuti in translatingCSIsfromArabicinto English, which are Domestication and Foreignization, and wewillseewhatis the mostused one by the translator. To achievethiswork, wetake the novel of Ahlam Mosteghanemi (ذاكرة الجسد)alongwith the English version ‘The Bridges of Constantine’ as a case study, which deals withdifferent cultures.

Dans cette recherche, nous traitonsl’étude de la traductionculturelle à travers des élémentsculturelsdans les ouvragesprécédents et récents de Littérature, (romans, histoires...) engénéral et la LittératureAlgérienneen particulier. Elle ne peutêtreréalisée sans tenircompte des différencesculturellesexistant entre leslangues pour montreruneméthode de communication compréhensible entre le texte source et le textecible.Les chercheursdifférencient entre plusieurs types des élémentsculturels, par exemple, la classification dePeter Newmark estconsidérée pour clarifier et justifier nosrecherches (écologie, culture sociale, plaisanterieset habitudes, organisations, coutumes, activités, concepts et culture matérielle). Ensuite, il fournira un aperçusur les deux stratégies de Venuti dans la traduction des élémentsculturels de l’arabeversl’anglais, qui sont ladomestication et la préfiguration, et nous verronsce qui est le plus utilisé par le traducteur. Pour réalisercetravail, nous prenons le roman d’AhlamMosteghanemi“ذاكرة الجسد” avec la version anglaise « The Bridges ofConstantine » commeune étude de cas, qui traite de différentes cultures.

یسلط هذا البحث الضوء على دراسة الترجمة الثقافیة من خلال المظاهر الثقافیة في الأعمال الأدبیة السابقة والحدیثة (الروایات والقصص ...)بشكل عام ، والأدب الجزائري بشكل خاص. حیث لا یمكن إجراؤها دون مراعاة الاختلافات الثقافیة الموجودة بیناللغات ، لإظهار طریقةمفهومة، للاتصال بین النص المصدر والنص الهدف. یمیز العلماء بین عدة أنواع من المظاهر الثقافیة على سبیلالمثال ،یأخذتصنیفبیترنیوماركلتوضیحوتبریر بحثنا (البیئة ، والثقافة الاجتماعیة ، والإیماءات والعادات ، المنظمات ، العادات ، والأنشطة ، والمفاهیم ، بالإضافةإلى الثقافة المادیة). ثم سیقدم لمحة عامة عن استراتیجیتيفینوتي في ترجمة المظاهر الثقافیة من العربیة إلى الانجلیزیة، وهما التوطیینوالتغریب ، وسنرى ما هي الاستراتیجیة الأكثر استخدامًا من قبل المترجم. و لتحقیق هذا العمل ، نأخذ روایة أحلام مستغانمي (ذاكرة الجسد)إلى جانب النسخة الإنجلیزیة "جسور قسنطینة" كدراسة حالة لما تتناوله من ثقافات مختلفة.
