An annotated subtitling of Thomas Frank’s YouTube series

Abstract

In this work, we attempt to subtitle two (02) selected episodes from the YouTube playlist "Crash Course""Study Skills" from the English language into the Arabic one, and we aim to define "the audiovisual translation and its common types" and focusing on "subtitling" as our main subject, its types, a number of difficulties and challenges that translators may face when subtitling. And after subtitling the two (02) episodes, we are going to annotate some samples where we find some difficulties when subtitling. This work is divided into two chapters: the first chapter will be about the "Theoretical Framework", where we will define the audiovisual translation and its types in general, then moving to subtitling, its types, challenges and difficulties faced by translators according to some theorists. In the second chapter, we will annotate on some samples from the two (02) episodes of our playlist "Study Skills";where we find some challenges and difficulties in translating.

Dans ce travail, nous essayons de sous-titrer deux (02) épisodes sélectionnés de la playlist YouTube " Crash Cours ""Compétences d'étude" de la langue anglaise à la langue arabe, et nous visons à définir "la traduction audiovisuelle et ses types communs "et en se concentrant sur le" sous-titrage " comme sujet principal, ses types, un certain nombre de difficultés et de défis auxquels les traducteurs peuvent être confrontés lors du sous-titrage. Et après avoir sous-titré les deux (02) épisodes, nous allons annoter quelques échantillons où nous en trouvons difficultés lors du sous-titrage. Ce travail est divisé en deux chapitres: le premier chapitre portera sur la " Théorie Cadre", où nous définirons la traduction audiovisuelle et ses types en général, puis passer au sous-titrage, ses types, défis et difficultés rencontrés par les traducteurs selon certains théoriciens. Dans le deuxième chapitre, nous annoterons quelques échantillons des deux (02) épisodes de notre playlist "Compétences d'étude"; où nous trouvons des défis et des difficultés à traduire.
