An Annotated Translation to Makeup Industry

Abstract

This study examines the subtitling and translation of a YouTube makeup tutorial into Arabic, addressing the lack of comprehensive Arabic makeup terminology. The study aims to bridge this gap and improve the accessibility of makeup tutorials for Arabic-speaking audiences. The main question is how to subtitle and translate makeup videos effectively to enhance cultural relevance and comprehension. It hypothesizes that the absence of standardized terminology complicates translation, but employing various strategies and developing a specialized glossary can improve accuracy. Using a qualitative approach, the study analyzes the translation process, exploring terminological, lexical, cultural, grammatical, and technical challenges. Techniques such as functional equivalence, direct equivalence, dynamic equivalence, descriptive translation, transposition, expansion, borrowing, paraphrasing, transliteration, and calque are utilized. Findings emphasize the importance of accurate translation and a specialized glossary for better comprehension. The research underscores the need for professional translation services and multilingual educational materials to support the Arabic-speaking makeup community.

Cette étude examine le sous-titrage et la traduction d'un tutoriel de maquillage sur YouTube en arabe, abordant le manque de terminologie complète en maquillage en arabe. L'étude vise à combler cette lacune et à améliorer l'accessibilité des tutoriels de maquillage pour les audiences arabophones. La question principale est de savoir comment sous-titrer et traduire efficacement les vidéos de maquillage pour améliorer la pertinence culturelle et la compréhension. L'hypothèse est que l'absence de terminologie standardisée complique la traduction, mais l'utilisation de diverses stratégies et le développement d'un glossaire spécialisé peuvent améliorer la précision. En utilisant une approche qualitative, l'étude analyse le processus de traduction, explorant les défis terminologiques, lexicaux, culturels, grammaticaux et techniques. Des techniques telles que l'équivalence fonctionnelle, l'équivalence directe, l'équivalence dynamique, la traduction descriptive, la transposition, l'expansion, l'emprunt, la paraphrase, la translittération et le calque sont utilisées. Les résultats soulignent l'importance d'une traduction précise et d'un glossaire spécialisé pour une meilleure compréhension. La recherche met en avant le besoin de services de traduction professionnels et de matériaux éducatifs multilingues pour soutenir la communauté arabophone du maquillage.

تناقش هذه الدراسة ترجمة وسترجة دروس المكياج على اليوتيوب إلى اللغة العربية، وتسلط الضوء على العجز الواضع في عربية اليوم فيما يخص مصطلحات المكياج باللغة العربية. تهدف الدراسة إلى سد هذه الفجوة وتقريب عالم المكياج للجمهور الناطق بالعربية. وقد كان سؤال بحثنا الرئيسي هو كيفية ترجمة وسترجة مقاطع الفيديو الخاصة بالمكياج بشكل فعال يعزز التواصل الثقافي والفهم. تفترض الدراسة أن غياب المصطلحات الموحدة يعقد عملية الترجمة، لكن استخدام استراتيجيات متنوعة وتطوير مسرد متخصص يمكن أن يحسن من دقة الترجمة. تحلل الدراسة عملية الترجمة باستخدام منهج نوعي، نستكشف فيها التحديات المصطلحية، اللغوية، الثقافية، النحوية، والتقنية. وقد قمنا باُستخدام تقنيات ترجمية عديدة في مثل التكافؤ الوظيفي، التكافؤ المباشر، التكافؤ الديناميكي، الترجمة الوصفية، التحويل، التوسيع، الاقتراض، إعادة الصياغة، النقل الصوتي والمحاكاة. وتؤكد النتائج على أهمية الترجمة الدقيقة والاستعانة بمسارد متخصصة من أجل فهم أفضل. وتؤكد أيضا على ضرورة توفير خدمات الترجمة الاحترافية والمواد التعليمية متعددة اللغات لدعم ثقافة المكياج خاصة للناطقات باللغة العربية.
