The Impact of Augmented Reality Techniques on Enhancing English Language Listening and Speaking Skills: A Case Study of The Electronic Lingo AR Mobile Application

Abstract

This research investigates the impact of the E-lingo Augmented Reality (AR) mobile application on enhancing English listening and speaking skills among third-year primary school pupils at Dahman Abd El Rahman School in Touggourt, Algeria. The study follows a quasi-experimental mixed-methods design, combining theoretical foundations with practical implementation, including pre-tests, post-tests, and questionnaires. Results showed significant improvements in listening comprehension, speaking fluency, pronunciation, and vocabulary in the experimental group. Both students and teachers reported increased motivation and engagement. Based on the findings, the study recommends integrating AR applications like E-lingo into primary English curricula to enrich the language learning process.

Cette recherche examine l'impact de l'application mobile E-lingo, basée sur la réalité augmentée (AR), sur le développement des compétences en compréhension orale et en expression orale en anglais chez les élèves de troisième année primaire à l’école Dahman Abd El Rahman de Touggourt, en Algérie. L’étude adopte une approche mixte quasi-expérimentale, combinant un cadre théorique avec une mise en œuvre pratique incluant des pré-tests, des post-tests et des questionnaires. Les résultats ont montré une amélioration significative de la compréhension auditive, de la fluidité de l’expression, de la prononciation et de l'acquisition du vocabulaire. Les élèves et les enseignants ont également signalé une motivation et une implication accrues. L’étude recommande ainsi l’intégration d’applications AR comme E-lingo dans les programmes d’anglais au niveau de l’enseignement primaire.

تهدف هذه الدراسة إلى معرفة تأثير تطبيق الهاتف المحمول "E-lingo" الذي يستخدم تقنية الواقع المعزز (AR) على تحسين مهارات الاستماع والتحدث باللغة الإنجليزية لدى تلاميذ السنة الثالثة ابتدائي بمدرسة "دحمان عبد الرحمن" بتقرت، الجزائر. اعتمدت الدراسة على منهج شبه تجريبي يجمع بين الجانب النظري والتطبيقي، من خلال اختبارات قبلية وبعدية واستبيانات. أظهرت النتائج تحسنًا ملحوظًا في مهارات الفهم السمعي والطلاقة والنطق واكتساب المفردات لدى المجموعة التجريبية. كما أشار كل من التلاميذ والمعلمين إلى زيادة الدافعية والتفاعل مع التعلم. وبناءً على هذه النتائج، توصي الدراسة بإدماج تطبيقات الواقع المعزز مثل E-lingo في مناهج اللغة الإنجليزية في التعليم الابتدائي.
