SUBTITLING HUMOR STAND UP COMEDY BYTREVOR NOAH

Abstract

Humor is an essential part of human communication. a vision present in every field, an art form, and a facet of science. It is a matter of timing, where not only laughter emerges, but also a range of emotions intertwined with amusement and a refreshing effect on the soul. Humor serves as a unique mode of communication, capable of addressing sensitive topics with subtlety and grace. And in our centrysociety of laughter is fond of specific type of humor performance that is stand-up comedy where the performer discusses many fields for the audience no matter sensitive it is. This dissertation studies subtitling humor strategies focusing on the stand-up comedy performance by the comedian Trevor Noah who is one of the most popular performers in this art. While shading light on the most effective technics that convey humor across languages (English to Arabic) through subtitling from his shows where in the first chapter; the theoretical chapter will address two parts; an overview of audio visual and subtitling in the first part following by humor in the second part and as for the second chapter; practical chapter that is titled by ‘subtitling and analysis’ which identify the corpus and deals with subtitling two samples of Trevor Noah performances while extracting the techniques used in the process.

L’humour constitue une dimension essentielle de la communication humaine. Il se manifeste comme une vision présente dans tous les domaines, à la fois forme d’art et facette de la science. Il relève d’un jeu de temporalité où émergent non seulement le rire, mais également un ensemble d’émotions mêlées à l’amusement, produisant un effet de fraîcheur sur l’âme. L’humour fonctionne comme un mode de communication singulier, capable d’aborder des sujets sensibles avec subtilité et élégance. Dans notre société contemporaine, le rire s’exprime particulièrement à travers une forme artistique privilégiée : le stand-up comedy, où l’artiste aborde divers thèmes face au public, aussi délicats soient-ils. La présente recherche s’intéresse aux stratégies de sous-titrage de l’humour en se focalisant sur les performances de stand-up de Trevor Noah, l’un des humoristes les plus reconnus dans ce domaine. Elle met en lumière les techniques les plus efficaces pour transmettre l’humour d’une langue à une autre (de l’anglais vers l’arabe) par le biais du sous-titrage, à partir d’extraits de ses spectacles. Le premier chapitre, de nature théorique, se divise en deux parties : la première offre une vue d’ensemble de l’audiovisuel et du sous-titrage, tandis que la seconde est consacrée à l’humour. Le deuxième chapitre, de nature pratique et intitulé « Sous-titrage et analyse », identifie le corpus et propose l’étude du sous-titrage de deux extraits des performances de Trevor Noah, en mettant en évidence les techniques mobilisées dans ce processus.

الفكاهة ليست مجرد تفاعل للضحك فقط بل هي علم دقيق وفن رائع حيث تمتزج فيه البهجة باالكتشاف والمرح باإلبداع، وال يخفى على أحد أنها سالح ناعم يستعمل للسخرية تجاه قضايا حساسة دون اثارة عداوة، بل هي أداة ذكية لنقد الواقع بطريقة راقية ال تجرح. وفي عصرنا الحالي ال تتجسد الكوميديا فقط في محاداثات العابرة بل في العروض ايضا و أبرزها ما يعرف بالستاند اب كوميدي وهو نوع من الكوميديا االرتجالية في المسرح وبالتواصل مع الجمهور. ان هذا البحث يناقش أساس عمليات سترجة الستاند اب كوميدي باستخدام اعمال احد ابرز الكوميدين في المجال ترافر نواه والتي حظيت أعماله بماليين المشاهدات حول منصات التواصل االجتماعي واليوتيوب. حيث نسلط الضوء حول سترجة أعماله الكوميديا كدراسة حالة، وإظهار اهم التقنيات لنقل الفكاهة من اإلنجليزية الى العربية، مستخرجين منها الصعوبات المتمثلة في الطابع اللغوي والثقافي للغتين. من اجل تحقيق ذلك، قدمنا في الجزء النظري لمحة عن الترجمة السمعية البصرية ثم تطرقنا الى السترجة، ثم ناقشنا تأثير أيديولوجية المترجم في عملية السترجة. أما في الجزء التطبيقي نستعرض فيه سترجة لثالث من مقاطعه و نعلق عليها، ونستخرج منها أهم التقنيات المستعملة في السترجة.
