Abstract: Contemporary political systems place considerable emphasis on the conduct of transparent and credible elections that command legitimacy and broad acceptance among competing candidates, whether affiliated with political parties or contesting as independents, in order to avert any erosion of trust in the electoral process. The establishment of autonomous institutions mandated with the administration and oversight of elections constitutes a pivotal prerequisite for their credibility, as such bodies endow electoral outcomes with institutional legitimacy. This, in turn, facilitates the consolidation of democratic governance, given that elections serve as a principal mechanism for the orderly and peaceful transfer of authority within diverse political frameworks.
