The reception of the Oedipus myth in 'The Tale of the Chorus of Statues' marks a definitive turning point in contemporary Arabic theater. SaadallahWannous masterfully reframes the myth, liberating it from the shackles of divine fate and metaphysics to place it within the realm of conscious political critique. In this vision, Oedipus is no longer a victim of the gods, but a casualty of manufactured illusions and systemic deception. The Chorus, too, is stripped of its traditional role as a witness, transformed into silent statues that embody the absolute submissiveness of a people stifled by oppressive authority. This research demonstrates how Wannous utilized mythical symbolism to expose a bitter reality, evolving the stage from a mere spectacle into a laboratory for historical awakening—one that incites the audience to rebel against all forms of political manipulation.-
