This study aims to assess the environmental and health risks resulting from the emission of toxic gas emissions (Hydrogen Sulfide H2S, Sulfur Dioxide SO2, and Methane CH4) from petroleum facilities in the Ouargla desert region. Comprehensive quantitative climatological analysis of 2025 pieces of meteorological data was employed to determine atmospheric stability classes according to the Pasquill-Gifford classification. This analysis included wind speed, direction, temperature, relative humidity, and atmospheric pressure. A mathematical simulation model was developed in MATLAB that integrated three dispersion models (Gaussian, DenseGas and Jet) in order to simulate the propagation of gas from an oil well towards a residential area located 2187 metres away. The study concluded that heavy gases tend to accumulate near ground level, particularly under stable atmospheric conditions in winter, whereas methane disperses vertically more rapidly. The research recommends the establishment of an integrated early warning system and the consideration of prevailing wind patterns in land-use planning around petroleum installations |
