| Abstract: | This study demonstrates the viability of utilizing castor oil as a renewable, bio-sourcedalternativetosynthetic polyol (polypropylene glycol - PPG) in the production of polyurethane foams (PUFs). Threedistinct foam formulations were developed and analyzed to control the open-to-closed cell ratio: apuresynthetic foam (PU1 - 100% PPG), a hybrid blend (PU2 - Castor Oil + PPG), and a purebio-basedfoam (PU3 - 100% Castor Oil). The structural, physical, and morphological properties werecompre-hensively evaluated using Fourier-Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) and ScanningElectronMicroscopy coupled with Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (SEM-EDX). The characterizationresults revealed that the hybrid blend (PU2) exhibited the highest density and the lowest water absorption, making it highly suitable for rigid insulation applications. Conversely, the pure syntheticfoam(PU1) exhibited a highly porous network with the highest water absorption (913%), renderingit idealfor filtration and absorption systems. Ultimately, these outcomes confirmthat castor oil representsan effective sustainable precursor for tailoring the performance of eco-friendly polyurethanefoamstailored for specific industrial needs.
