This study aimed to reveal the existence of a relationship between executive functions, including "cognitive flexibility," and verbal and non-verbal communication among individuals with intellectual disabilities. To achieve our objective, we conducted a field study on a sample of 10 children with intellectual disabilities, selected using a purposive sampling method. Several tools were utilized, including observation and interviews, and two tests were administered: the Dimensional Change Card Sort (DCCS) test to measure cognitive flexibility, and Ahmed Kharoubi’s (2021) verbal and non-verbal communication skills scale. We adopted a descriptive-correlational approach, and data were processed using the SPSS software via Spearman's correlation coefficient. By calculating the relationship between the two variables, we reached the following results : _ there is a statistically significant correlational relationship between the scores of executive functions (cognitive flexibility) and the scores of verbal and non-verbal communication among children with mild intellectual disabilities. _ there is a statistically significant correlational relationship between the scores of executive functions (cognitive flexibility) and the scores of verbal communication among children with intellectual disabilities. _ there is a statistically significant relationship between the scores of executive functions (cognitive flexibility) and the scores of non-verbal communication among children with mild intellectual disabilities. | en_US |
