Developing EOP Learners' Reading Skills through discourse analysis The case study of Third year Professional Licence-Drilling-KMUO

Abstract

Reading skill plays an important role in SL teaching and learning. It is one of the effective ways for the acquisition of TL. Reading is one of the macro skills within ESP. It is important for EOP learners as they need it in their profession whether to read manuals, instructions, to write articles, or to participate in seminars. Recently, many applied linguists have suggested a discourse-based approach to reading since students need to understand texts in their context of use. The current study aims at developing EOP learners' reading skill within a discourse analysis perspective. To achieve this aim, two tools were used- two questionnaires and a quasi-experimental study. The results in the post-test obtained showed an improvement in comparison with the pre-test.

تلعب مھارات القراءة دورا ھاما في تعلیم وتعلم اللغة الأجنبیة فھي واحدة من الطرق الفعالة لتعلم اللغة المستھدفة وواحدة من المھارات الكبرى في اللغة الإنجلیزیة للأھداف الخاصة. وھي مھمة ایضا لطلاب اللغة الإنجلیزیة لأغراضھم المھنیة لأنھم في حاجة إلیھا في مھنھم سواء لقراءة الارشادات والتعلیمات او لكتابة مقالات أو للمشاركة في الندوات. في الآونة الأخیرة اقترح العدید من اللسانیین التطبیقیین نھجا قائما على تحلیل الخطاب لتدریس مادة القراءة لان الطلاب یحتاجون إلى فھم النصوص وفق السیاق المستخدم. في ھذا الإطار تھدف ھذه الدراسة الى تطویر مھارات القراءة لمتعلمي اللغة الانجلیزیة للأھداف العملیة باستعمال منھجیة تحلیل الخطاب. لتحقیق ھذا الھدف، تم استخدام أداتین: استبیانین ودراسة شبھ تجریبیة والتي أظھرت أن النتائج المتحصل علیھا في الاختبار الثاني أحسن من تلك المتحصل علیھا في الاختبار الأول.
