Abstract: Algeria, a country with a hemmed-in desert where the oasis is a veritable constellation of unchanging green spots on a mineral immensity of sand and rock, representing a haven of life, born mainly from the conjunction of the sun, the genius of man, water and the date palm. Unfortunately condemned by a past that sequestered it in isolation, under the pretext of not being able to ensure its own reproducibility, the oasis has not been able to achieve its true lustre despite a very glorious history at all levels. A real island of social life (religious, cultural), of economic activity (agriculture, crafts, trade, small trades) and an ecologically functional system, whose cohesion is ensured by the complementarity of interests. At the dawn of the 2000s, a new era is taking shape for the Algerian oasis revealed by the launch of large-scale development operations. It is therefore legitimate to ask what meaning should be attributed to this spatial entity? It could be answered that it is through the implementation of an integrated multidimensional concept and a combination of sectors that the oasis should be considered as an agro-socio-economic-ecological system, exploited, managed and analysed in its entirety. Indeed, the establishment of a new spatial map respecting local potential is a guarantee of sustainability. Between the promotion of oasis products and the emergence of industries, archetypal Saharan terroirs are grafted on. It is from ecotourism and the processing industry that oasis development must be undertaken. In sum, from now on the key to good governance of the oasis will have to be based on the triangular of sustainability combining ecological viability, socio-economic profitability and technical-agronomic reliability. This is the added value that this synthesis attempts to elucidate.
