Abstract: This thesis aims to make a comparative study between two geophysical techniques used in the oil and gas industry; however, this study focus only on the Algerian exploration fields. Those techniques are vertical seismic profile (VSP) and seismic while drilling (SWD). To proceed the comparison, it is better to highlight the technological limitations and the advantages in each and every one of them through a case study done in exploration well in Algeria regarding the SWD through a simulation in MATLAB using stick slip vibrations as a source since this method has not been used in Algeria yet. Also, it’s recommended through the results of simulation that SWD is a practical method for real-time subsurface imaging for better perceiving the inside structure of the well to make drilling more efficient and safer.
