Abstract: Surface water in watersheds is an essential element in the study and development of their roles in any hydrological system. However, rapid and accurate surface extraction is a major challenge because of the spatial diversity of the objects on the earth surface. Remote sensing through its spatial, temporal and synoptic capabilities becomes a very powerful tool in this type of problem. The results of our study show that watershed of salt lake or (chott) merouane cover 130,6014km² in january 2022 and it goes down in august to 19.5618km² during the summer due to the effect of high temperature and thus an increase in evaporation and it goes high in december 2022 to 116.6084km² Surface water of chott merouane do not dry completely due to the continuous drainage from canal oued righ , this canal contributes to supllying the chott with water maintaining a certain water level
