Abstract

In Mohammed Dib's novel *"The Bridegroom's Lady,"* we address the representation of women through the character of Eve, according to the novel, an Algerian woman. The story takes place during key periods in Algeria's history, including French colonization and the War of Independence. It embodies women’s struggle to meet the challenges of their time, highlighting their aspirations, sacrifices, and resistance in the context of patriarchy and colonial oppression.

The novel offers insight into the condition of women by highlighting Eve's multiple roles as wife, mother, worker, and activist. It explores the tensions between her personal aspirations and the social expectations placed on her as a woman. Through Hawa's journey, Mohamed DIB offers deep thought about the crucial role of women in building national identity and in the struggle for freedom, dignity, and equality.
