Abstract: This study seeks to answer the central research question: How are circular economy models connected to the bioeconomy in the existing literature? To explore this, a systematic literature review was conducted, focusing on several key aspects: (1) how the relationship between circular economy and bioeconomy is addressed in the literature; (2) the defining characteristics of these studies; (3) the most common methodological approaches used; (4) the major initiatives and programs that have been implemented; and (5) the key stakeholders involved. The study has contributed to expanding knowledge on the European Commission's role in the bioeconomy, with key findings showing a growing interest among researchers in this area. It highlighted the integration of methods based on the developed keyword network and included the European Commission’s main bioeconomy initiatives, which guide relevant policies and actions. The results also underscore the importance of fostering stronger collaboration between the scientific community, private sector, governments, and civil society to develop more effective environmental policies
