Abstract: This paper is an attempt to answer the questions raised by our evaluation, as an examiner of PhD dissertations dealing with the intercultural approach in the teaching ofFrench as a foreign language in the Algerian context. First, an account of our analysis of PhD dissertations will be introduced. Second, two examples that canreflect a effective implementation of the intercultural approach in teaching French, as a foreign language will be recommended. These include on the one hand the exploitation of humorous speech and on the other hand the Francophone literature resulting from immigration
