| Abstract: | Exploration drilling operations require accurate formation evaluation to confirm the presence of hydrocarbons and determine reservoir viability. However, obtaining reliable petrophysical data such as porosity, permeability, and fluid saturation under complex subsurface conditions remains a significant challenge. Inadequate evaluation often leads to unsuccessful exploration wells, increased costs, and delayed development decisions. This project relies on a comprehensive analysis of formation evaluation data with the aim of developing an integrated approach to characterizing reservoir properties during exploratory drilling. The study is based on the collection and analysis of data from approximately twenty-seven exploratory wells spread across three major basins: Wadi Miyah, Illizi, and Benoud. Key parameters were systematically examined, including downhole testing (DST) results. Advanced interpretation of the DST data enabled the wells to be classified into three categories: permanently abandoned, temporarily abandoned, and completed wells. The results show that combining multiple evaluation techniques—sampling, wireline logging, drill-while-logging, and drill stem testing—provides a reliable framework for assessing reservoir quality and productivity. This work contributes to improving exploration success rates, reducing non-productive time, and enabling more informed drilling decisions in the Algerian hydrocarbon context. |
