Abstract: The present study focused on the lower Cretaceous deposits of the Ouarsenis mountains, corresponding to an alternance of marl and pelagic limestones. The sedimentological investigation is based on microfacies analyses of limestone rocks from Ain El Hadjela section, coupled with XRD analysis from Oued Fodda dam area. Integrating the two approaches enabled the interpretation of the depositional environment; indicating that during this period deposition corresponded to a deep marine environment controlled by important condition shifts.
