Abstract: This thesis presents the design and implementation of a low-cost photovoltaic analyser based on the Arduino Mega 2560 microcontroller. The developed system is capable of automatically generating current-voltage (I-V) and power-voltage (P-V) characteristic curves for various solar modules, using an INA219 current and voltage sensor, an MCP4725 12-bit I²C DAC for precise gate voltage control, and an IRLZ44N MOSFET as a controllable electronic load. The system acquires more than 2000 data points per sweep in less one minute, and transmits the data in real time to a PC via serial communication for visualization in Microsoft Excel. Experimental validation was conducted on three photovoltaic sources of increasing power levels under real outdoor conditions. A comparative evaluation against the conventional manual method using a rheostat and digital multimeters confirmed the reliability of the proposed system, demonstrating clear advantages in measurement speed, data resolution, and curve quality. The results prove that frugal engineering principles can deliver scientifically meaningful PV characterization at a fraction of the cost of commercial solutions.
