Abstract: The exploitation of horizontal drains in heterogeneous reservoirs represents a major milestone in the oil industry. This work aims to optimize the productivity of this type of drains, based on the evaluation of productivity indexes (Jh) as well as vertical and horizontal permeabilities. Four production zones were selected within the Hassi Messaoud field: HZ, 1B, 2S, and HZS, where 16 wells were studied. The methodology involved collecting and analyzing PVT data for each zone, well geometry, petrophysical parameters, and well test data. The Jh correlations of Borisov, Joshi, Giger, and Renard were applied alongside nodal analysis using PIPESIM to determine the optimal correlation for each zone. The results demonstrated that the anisotropic Joshi model is the most accurate across all four zones, with a Root Mean Square (RMS) error ranging from 0.6 to 1.15. Tubing sensitivity analyses yielded stable flow rates of 8.6, 13.5, and 9.77 Sm3/h, respectively. Regarding the increase in drainage radius, the flow rate decreased to 7.4, 11.48, and 9.1 Sm3/h. In terms of water production, the flow rate decreased significantly from 8.6, 13.5, and 9.77 Sm3/h down to 2.6, 6.8, and 0 Sm3/h. Furthermore, the maximum reservoir pressure was estimated at 400 Kgf/cm2 and the minimum at 150 Kgf/cm2 for a total skin factor of -4. These findings provide practical future decisions for the optimal and sustainable exploitation of the Hassi Messaoud field using horizontal drains.
